“Lyonel Trouillot’s novel Children of Heroes is a real tour de force"

The weather is getting hotter, and so is the University of Nebraska Press! New this month is Children of Heroes by Lyonel Trouillot. Chronicling a childhood where he and his sister Mariéla were abused by their father and in the end “killed the man who tyrannized them and their piously pathetic mother, who is now a “blank.” They then escaped to somewhere “far away.”Now the prolific writer Trouillot re-visits his past with this book, that while stark and tragic, gives an intimate depiction of this unique country.  From Mardi Gras to the food, to the sometimes dire political situation; this week’s Linking in Lincoln will be indulging in all things Haitian.
